Nets Through Time: The Technique and Art of Knotted Netting is the culmination of years of research. It covers the entire history of nets from prehistoric sites to fiber art by contemporary artists.

Knotted netting was used to produce utilitarian nets for fishing, trapping, and carrying. The same technique was adapted for making lace of several styles and might, in fact, have been the earliest type of lace.

The book contains 155 pages, describes many items of knotted netting, and includes over forty black-and-white photographs. The tools used for all kinds of nets are also discussed and pictured.  References and an Index are included.

Jacqueline Davidson was introduced to the technique of knotted netting while studying weaving at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine. She later taught knotted netting in other textile classes and published several magazine articles. She lives in Deer Isle with her husband Darwin, a commercial photographer.
